April 30th, 2010

Recently, Tony Jones asked his blog readers to note "Emergent's charism" to the broader church.

Getting the Elephant Out of the Sanctuary | Conversations Journal
This is among the best conversations I've ever read concerning the doctrine of the atonement – our theories and where they both succeed and fall short, and how each one ultimately fails what it's trying to do.

Tools for Sketching User Experiences | UX Booth
This is a fantastic example of a real workflow for sketching user experiences. I'm better at sketching than I used to be, but I'm still not as good as I'd like, and this is a necessary place of growth for me.

adaptive path » sketchboards: discover better + faster ux solutions
"The sketchboard is a low-fi technique that makes it possible for designers to explore and evaluate a range of interaction concepts while involving both business and technology partners. Unlike the process that results from wireframe-based design, the sketchboard quickly performs iterations on many possible solutions and then singles out the best user experience to document and build upon."

Christianity is Empire, part 3 (Christian supremacy) | the Jesus Manifesto
Mark continues the series on the connections between Christianity and Empire. This one considers the notion of the supremacy of Christianity, and the short leaps that are made from that to supremacy of nations, races, and so on. Mark suggests that we are faithful instead by servanthood, humility, and inferiority. The series will continue from here, and I'm really anticipating where he'll go.

SproutCore – Home
"SproutCore is an HTML5 application framework for building responsive, desktop-caliber apps in any modern web browser, without plugins." I'm personally not sure about this (though I'm interested), as it depends on JavaScript much more than it does HTML – possibly making it much harder for designers to use it.

Embracing the digital book — Craig Mod
These are necessary thoughts on what is missing from digital books. This includes powerful design principles from traditional book design, which should not have been forgotten because they are good design; it also includes powerful new things that e-readers make possible and need to be incorporated into modern book design. This, then, is powerful for digital book design and also insightful for design in general.
