"With Congress preparing to vote on health care reform this fall, talk of what’s in the major House bill has been dominating the news and political blogs. Unfortunately, the public discourse about health care reform has been harmed by false claims, scare tactics, and lies. At OpenCongress, we’ve had the official text of the House health care bill available online for a month for people to read and get the facts."
From Barack Obama: "But let’s make sure that we talk with one another, and not over one another. We are bound to disagree, but let’s disagree over issues that are real, and not wild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that anyone has actually proposed. This is a complicated and critical issue, and it deserves a serious debate."
Collaboration in Mozilla Bespin. I haven't been interested in Bespin up to this point, but seeing this article on the possibilities for collaboration on code makes it interesting. For projects where Subversion (or other version control) is overkill or not possible (for technical reasons, or people reasons), this could be a lifesaver.
“God, we pray Give bread to those who do not have bread And to us who have bread give the hunger for justice” Wonderful thoughts on justice and prayer from 24-7 Prayer.
"What Christ demands first is love of God and neighbor which means forgiveness and charity to those with whom we associate at any level. The very system of the US economy must run counter to this understanding of the world. Devotion to God is devotion to something very different than system that relies on debt to survive and grow. It relies on a love that forgives debts as an act of devotion not to profit, but to God."
Here is another attempt to separate fact from fiction on healthcare reform. Again, I would be happy and encouraged if people were willing to dialogue on the actual issues, but ridiculous lies and fear-mongering are the extent of the discussion, from the Right. Here's hoping.
"So many of us want to live in the Way of Jesus—pursuing a life that is deeply soulful, connected to our real needs and good news to our world. Yet so often our methods of spiritual formation are individualistic, information driven or disconnected from every day life in our society."
It is really frustrating to watch how people on the Right twist the healthcare issue around. Andrew, as always, has intelligent coverage. I would welcome debates on legitimate issues, but that kind of debate is simply not happening with this kind of stuff being pushed forward.
Examines how we as designers can bridge the gap between design and content. These kind of articles and resources have been arising a good deal this year, and it is wonderful to see them.
Some material in the last few months made it seem as though we wouldn't be able to solidly use HTML 5 until 2022. This totally debunks that, and shows that we need to be ready for it now.
